Thing #2 Blog
For this training I often feel as though I am coming in in the middle of the conversation. I am glad I found a definition of Library 2.0 because I had no idea what it was. I think when libraries get excited about these new technologies it is a good idea to set them up in a way that will not leave their patrons behind. Find a way to train grandparents to share some of these technologies with their kids. I most appreciate the comments of the librarian or staff person who said that some libraries are still at the point where we need to find ways to be open for our patrons who do not have the updated equipment at home. I think my library is like that. Also, we need staff who are not elitist and can show people how to use these new technologies and deal with real beginners like me. I think it would help my library the most to have online tutorials that are easy to use like what is a blog and how do I use it. I like the idea of libraries posting their collections on line for those of us that can't travel everywhere so we could do genealogical or other research and not be hampered by being only a community user or an independent scholar. I seem to remember John Borchert called the information age the fourth type of transportation after walking, streetcars/railroads and the automobileso maybe the best approach for libraries would be the where do you want to go today and how can we help you get there?
